LineageOS Now Available for R36S & R36H – Early Days, Big Potential! 🕹️
Good news for retro handheld fans! LineageOS, a popular alternative Android build, is now available for the R36S and R36H consoles! Here’s the rundown:
- What is LineageOS? It’s an alternative Android OS, great for “de-Googling” devices or getting Android running on hardware it wasn’t designed for.
- Compatibility: Currently works on R36S devices with Panel 4 screens. More compatibility is planned!
- User Interface: Boots into the familiar Daijisho Launcher, which is designed for controller use (no touchscreen needed!).
Connectivity Issues: Wi-Fi and Ethernet are currently not* working. This is a known issue and being worked on. Expect no internet access for now.
- Performance: Generally snappy, but initial boot times are around 38 seconds. Some launcher crashes and UI navigation quirks have been reported.
Gaming: Some games (Shovel Knight, Pizza Tower) run*, but are currently missing sound. GTA: San Andreas has been reported running, also without sound. Expect crashes and bugs.
Early Release: This is a very* early build. Expect bugs, limited functionality, and a need for tinkering.
Bottom Line: This is a promising development, but currently best suited for enthusiasts willing to experiment. If you need a stable, fully-functional experience, it’s best to wait for future updates!
